I'm Tara Kern, the high school math teacher at Greenbush-Middle River. Here is a little bit about myself:
I grew up in International Falls, MN and played girls hockey throughout high school. After high school I attended Bemidji State University where I majored in Mathematics and Mathematics Education. In 2009, I graduated from BSU with my B.S. degree and accepted a teaching position in Karlstad at Tri-County. I taught at TC until 2013. In 2012, I decided to go back to school to start working on my Masters degree in Mathematics Education and completed the degree in July 2016. The classes I will be teaching this year are Algebra 2, Prob/Stats, College Trig, and College Calculus. I'm the coach of our Math League Team and I also help coach the Gator Clay Busters Trap Team.
When I'm not teaching I stay plenty busy. During the winter months I make several trips to go snowboarding!! I have been to places like Breckenridge, CO and Whistler/Blackcomb in Canada, as well as many resorts in Minnesota. I plan to make a few more trips to CO and MT to see different parts of the country and try more ski resorts. During the summer I love spending time at our families lake cabin on Rainy Lake. I like to go wakeboarding, jet skiing, and fishing. This past summer I spent my time in Baltimore, MD at Johns Hopkins University teaching at a summer camp called Center for Talented Youth. I taught for 6 weeks to gifted and talent students from all over the world in topics of Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calc and Calculus. I was also able to visit many places including Chicago, Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington DC. It was a great experience and I hope to return there again in future summers.
My husband and I have been married for 3 years and we have two spoiled black labs. Baby will be 11 years old and Cami is 4 years old.
I hope this will be a great school year!
